about

Now available on Bandcamp for the first time.

This was Dean Baker's debut album with Galahad.
It was also the last Galahad album to be recorded on 2" tape using an old BBC 24 track Studer machine.

Below is the original press release from 1998:

‘Following Ghosts’ is the title of the brand new eleven track studio album from Galahad and is easily the band’s most accomplished and diverse work to date.

Whilst at times the band still nod towards classic ‘progressive vibes’ in songs such as the epic closer ‘Shine’, Galahad have also progressed and moved on in the real sense incorporating a whole plethora of contemporary and classic sounds and textures to create several ambient, atmospheric tracks such as the ever changing and evolving fourteen minute opus ‘Bug Eye’, the eastern sounding ‘Karma for One’ and the pulsating ‘Ocean Blue’, all of which groove and at times rock along at a fair old pace.

‘Myopia’ begins as a no holds barred distorted guitar driven speed freak out culminating in maniacally distorted violin solo coming across as a kind of Led Zeppelin/Levellers hybrid. ‘Perfection Personified’ sounds at first like a simple psychedelic tinged poppy number which belies it’s bitter subject matter and closes a lot heavier than it starts - a surefire hit single, if it were ever given the chance!!

The heavier tracks are complimented by the classically arranged ‘Easier Said than Done’, the heartfelt delicate almost folky acousticity of ‘A Short Reflection of two Past Lives’ part one and part two with it’s almost Beatlesque roll over ending, together with the stark beauty of the Sakamoto like instrumental ‘Rejuvenation. ‘Imago’ provides the album with the big wide screen almost Queen like ballad .

‘Following Ghosts’ certainly doesn’t mark a complete change in Galahad’s musical direction but more of a broadening of horizons, whereby the band have taken a good look around, opened their eyes, ears and minds to other influences which have consequently been embraced and moulded in to something a little different whilst ironically still retaining the melodic and commercial edge that Galahad have become known for over the years.
