about

On the 26th October 1985, only three months after they had formed and two months after their first show, Galahad, who were then a seven piece band with two keyboard players (Stu now being the only remaining member from that time), entered a recording studio for the first time. The studio was called Studio 95 and was based in Boscombe, Dorset and was run by Claudette Evans who had recorded many local bands and musicians over the years. In fact, here is a link for more information about Studio 95: claudetteevans.com/about/studio-95/

The band recorded five songs in the studio on an analogue Tascam 8 track machine with a few overdubs. The session included a very early version of 'Ghost of Durtal' which was to become an early classic and was to remain as a part of their live set for several years. 'Durtal' was re-recorded for the 1993 CD re-issue of 'In a Moment of Madness' in 1993.

'Dreaming from the Inside' was re-recorded a couple of years later at Active Studios in Parkstone (formerly Arny's Shack) and released as a limited edition single which has since become something of a collectors item.

'Painted Lady', which Stu had written as a 15 year old teenager after being inspired having spotted one on a Buddleia bush whilst mowing his parents lawn was, also recorded. This song was subsequently expanded and re-recorded as '21st Century Painted Lady' nearly thirty years later for the band's 'Seize the Day EP'.

The idea being that the 'demo' would help Galahad to obtain local gigs although it wasn't entirely successful as all the tracks were original apart from one which just happened to be an interpretation of a piece of classical music written by 19th century French composer George Bizet!

However, most local pubs and venues, quite understandably, just wanted bands to play well known pop covers......which were danceable! Good start then! Although a few did give us a chance and we gradually built up a healthy local following and the rest as they say, is history.

Therefore, we've now decided to finally make it publicly available to stream/download for free some 38 years later!

Although, it is a very basic recording but, hopefully, it'll appeal as a curio to those who are interested in the early beginnings of the band and it gives a reasonable idea of how we sounded back in the mid 1980s!
